Everybody knows usages of the Internet. A small kid of 6 yr knows mail Id of her class teacher. A granny of 75 knows she can "see" her grandson in a pc through net, who is working in a foreign country. Now a days, Internet is no more a luxury or something out of reach for common man.
In this post, I have tried to put down some of the day to day and practical usages of Internet, based on my experience in last couple of months.
Just imagine this situation. Weekend is round the corner. You are not planning to go out as you have already visited many of the places and want to take some rest at your hotel. You don't have any other way of entertainment except your lappy with net connection. You are thinking to enjoy your old classic all time favourite Hindi movie Sholay. In a country like US, its still possible to get the DVD but in a country like Mexico where you will hardly find an Indian, what can you do ? Very simple.. Download any of the famous P2P clients like BitTorrent, go to any of the torrent library like Mininova and enjoy the movie. Torrent has become a big blessing for us. Get the torrent from any these torrent library sites and download the movies. I have seen almost all the movies which I wanted to see since long time. Along with movies, I have been able to see some of my favourite shows like MTV Roadies 6.0 and MTV Splitsvilla. You can also find some old classic series like Vikram Aur Betal, Alif Laila etc. You will almost get everything which you want to see.
IPL 2 is in full fledge and being an Indian, its out national "duty" to catch the live action. If you are not lucky enough to have a Indian channel in TV which broadcasts IPL, no need to get upset. Go to a P2P site like myp2p which hosts live sports, download the player of your wish and checkout the live action. Along with cricket, you will find many other sports over there like Soccer, Baseball and Basketball. If you are too lazy to install the player, you can checkout cric7 and enjoy the IPL live. Do you need to switch on the TV anymore for matches, nope.. Isn't it ?
When Internet was invented, one of the main purpose was to communicate with others. Today we have plenty of chat clients and messengers available. It has solved communication problem to a large extent but still.. what to do to communicate where there is no net availability and you want to communicate on phone lines. There are many VOIP softwares available like Voipzoom or SmartVoip and enjoy calling on phone lines from Net in the cheapest way. Sometimes when I see some of my friends using these VOIP softwares to make their "private" calls in India, i can't stop myself recalling Reliance to Reliance free plan in India. Obviously this VOIP calls are not totally free but you can say its almost kind of free.
I was planning to visit ISKON temple in Mexico city. I asked the route to some of my friends here but couldn't get exact route. What to do now? Google maps are there to help you. You need to be clear about where exactly you want to go and then... you are on way thanks to Google Maps. Google Maps has really helped us a lot to find out the places in Mexico.
Its 6 in the evening. You are about to switch on the light bulb and suddenly it gets blown. Now you need to ask your hotel reception to get it changed. You will pick up the phone and would suddenly realize.. person sitting on reception doesn't know even an E of English. And what about you.. you know just few words in Spanish :( What to do now ? Well, Google language tools come in rescue. Checkout the Spanish translation and get your work done.
"Chal yaar aaj palak paneer banate hey (Hey dude, lets cook palak paneer today)"
"Han... par palak aaur paneer kahan hey ? (Sure.. but what about groceries, spinach and paneer ?)"
"Its there.. we just brought it last weekend.. Checkout the fridge"
"Sahi hey.. par kaise pakaenge ? (Great, But how will we cook it ? ).. I don't know the recipe."
This is a normal conversation for us, new "cooks", who are very much fond of trying new dishes but dont know the recipes. Dont be upset. Do some googling for "Palak Paneer Recipe" and you are on way to palak paneer :). If you are lucky enough, you should also find a video on youtube. What else do you need when all recipes are on fingertips through Net. Enjoy upto your strength :)
And this is the last usage. Actually its not a usage of the Internet but of your pc. In case you are having trouble from mosquitoes in your bedroom and don't enjoy their late night singing parties, you can try Anti mosquito software. I tried that but didn't work as per expectations. May be I need to try another version or mosquitoes in mexico are IT savy :). In case you try this software and find it effective, pass on the software details to me without fail. I need to get rid of mosquitoes at any cost.
That's it.. In case if you find interesting usages of the net, share it with others through comments in this post.
Keep Googling :)
